This website is all about our journey as Owner Builders. An Owner Builder can be defined as many things I suppose, but in this context, it means we are "managing our own construction." Basically, we are acting as the General Contractor

We thought it would be fun to share our owner-builder experience, with others considering managing their own construction, plus it would serve as our journal to help those who know us, keep up on our progress, or lack of progress for that matter.

Yep, we're totally clueless when it comes to construction, we've never built a thing in our lives. And I think what made it even more challenging, is the fact that we don't know anyone that we can just talk to, no one that we can just call to ask the simplest question. Another thing we found that we needed tremendously, was that we don't have any able-bodied young men in the family that we can call to come help lift, or hammer. We were basically totally alone in this endeavor. But even though this project was much more than we ever expected. more stressful than anticipated, it was more rewarding then we ever dreamed.

I've tried to add what tidbits of info I could along the way, that might help other Owner Builders. There is still sooooo much more that I haven't posted yet. I'm anxious to share what we learned along the way, as there are many pricesless lessons I think an a new owner builder will find useful. I'll do my best to add them all as time allows.

Books We Love. . .

Because we are so clueless when it comes to building, we found ourselves depending a lot on How-To books and magazines. Here are just a couple that we couldn't live without. I especially enjoy our subscription to Fine Homebuilding. It shows you how to do the basic building tasks, better then what you otherwise would have done. Wonderful, useful tips from the experts!
