About Us . . .
Ok, I know some of you may be wondering . . .
"why are these people making such a fuss over just a garage?
You would think it would be "that" easy, wouldn't you - building a garage with living quarters above it. Well, for most people it would be. In our case, it's like running a race with only one leg, and blindfolded.
Ok, so we're not building the big kahuna, the main house, but this project has turned out to be much more then just your ordinary garage with an apartment above it. I'm afraid we got ourselves in deeper and deeper as time went on . . . and on . . . and..., Our desire to put something really nice on our property, something that was "worthy" of it, undoubtedly got in the way of anything simple. What the heck did we get ourselves into! (and yes, a certain word was replaced to protect those who may be offended).
Well at least the experience we will gain from this basic level, will no doubt help guide us while we build our main house someday... uh, right? :-/ Well, our "garage apartment" will serve as our primary residence, while we build the big kahuna (that's Hawaiian for Main House). We'll be happy little bees in our tiny little home above the garage, but ohhhh what a garage it will be! [big smile]
As our design scribbles emerged, we realized that this was not going to be anything ordinary as far as garage-apartment's go. With it's steep 14:12 pitched roofline, and large 1:1 pitch dormers, we ended up with something much more. it might as well be our home! (as I grit my teeth). Again I say... "What the heck did we get ourselves into?!" ;-O
Well, then there is this website. It's far from complete, but I do hope that through time, we will have things to write about and pictures to post about our building experience. I enjoy designing websites, it's what I do. So this was a great medium for me to vent as well. :-) I never thought in a gazillion years, that I would be posting my home out on the Internet for all you people to read about. Yikes!! But as we've learned from so many other Owner Builder websites, there is always something to learn from someone else's experience . . . and mistakes. I hope this site will help others managing their own construction learn right along with us. I'll try to keep it light and entertaining for non-builders as well, but it shouldn't be too difficult to amuse, as Rich and I have absolutely NO experience in building anything! I know Rich can build a great taco however!
